flowery memory

imagemy mother’s favourite

jasmine like her is

small yet strong.

i liked to buy strands

from children hawking

them at traffic lights.

now they grow in our garden,

their vines offering a

fragrant reminder of Amma.

my coveted frangipani

has burst into bloom;

my son calls out

in excitement

anticipating my pleasure

i am pleased that he has

a fragrance to remember

me by, adding another flower

to the family tree
